The 10 Day Rule
Image via Wikipedia
YOU HAVE ONLY TEN DAYS FROM THE DATE OF ARREST TO SAVE YOUR LICENSE!!!
Did you know that the DMV will automatically suspend your license if your attorney does not request a hearing within ten days of your arrest?
The answer to this problem is actually rather simple. Find an attorney you trust, and hire him/her. It is then their job to request the hearing, and the DMV will set a hearing date generally within a couple days of the request. The hearing could be several months after your arrest.
In the meantime, if you do not make sure this straight forward step is taken, you will be suspended from driving in California, or the entire nation if you have a California license.
What do I do?
Spend some time looking for an attorney you can put your faith in to defend YOU. Once you have found that attorney, retain them. Your lawyer is YOUR advocate, make sure you know they will personally defend you, make sure they will actually go to court for you.
With a little research, you can find the lawyer that is right for you.
